Film Lens

Ocean Watch
Ocean Watch focuses on the vast and largely unexplored regions of the ocean, emphasizing the importance of understanding its ecosystems. The documentary shows the work of the Schmidt Ocean Institute, which was established in 2009 to advance ocean science using advanced technology. In 2023, the Institute launched its new research vessel, Falkor 2, designed to enhance deep ocean exploration and facilitate groundbreaking discoveries. Throughout 2023, Falkor 2 traveled over 39,000 kilometers, mapping 190,000 square kilometers of seafloor and uncovering new species and ecosystems. The film illustrates how the deep ocean is interconnected with life on land and in the atmosphere, stressing the need to protect these environments for the health of the planet.
