The production took place between 2008 and 2010, with scenes filmed in both Cape Verde and Lisbon. The film was produced by ASAD, Útopi, and Animasur, and funded by AECID. The music in the film was performed live, featuring native Cape Verdean genres such as batuka and morna, which adds authenticity to the cultural representation.
