John's Not Mad is a British documentary that follows John Davidson, a 16-year-old from Galashiels, Scotland, who has severe Tourette syndrome. The film presents John's life alongside his family and community, illustrating how they cope with a condition that is often misunderstood. Oliver Sacks, a neurologist, provides insights into John's behavior, while the narration by actress Eleanor Bron adds depth to the storytelling.
The documentary aired as part of the BBC's Q.E.D. series in 1989 and gained cult status shortly after its release. A follow-up documentary, The Boy Can't Help It, aired in 2002, revisiting John at age 30 and introducing another young boy, Greg Storey, who also has Tourette's. This follow-up continued to explore the experiences of those living with the condition.
