Forgiving Dr. Mengele is a documentary about Eva Mozes Kor, a Holocaust survivor who, along with her twin sister Miriam, was subjected to experiments by Dr. Josef Mengele at Auschwitz-Birkenau. The film chronicles their harrowing experiences, including their separation from their family upon arrival at the concentration camp in 1944. The directors, Bob Hercules and Cheri Pugh, followed Kor for over four years, capturing her life after the war, including her immigration to Israel and later to the United States.
The documentary also focuses on Kor's efforts to promote forgiveness and understanding, as she created the C.A.N.D.L.E.S. Museum in Indiana to educate others about the Holocaust. It premiered on February 24, 2006, at the Gene Siskel Film Center in Chicago, and is distributed by First Run Features. The film runs for 82 minutes and is in English.
