FLY BY NIGHT follows artist Duke Riley as he trains thousands of pigeons with tiny LEDs to perform aerial displays over the East River. This project took place from a decommissioned naval vessel in the Brooklyn Navy Yard and was commissioned by Creative Time. The performances occurred in the spring of 2016 and garnered attention from both the art community and the public.
The film captures Riley's journey from the initial concept to the final performance, examining the connection between urban life and nature. The Village Voice recognized Riley's work with a lifetime achievement award for enhancing the public perception of pigeons, marking a significant moment in contemporary art.
