Dreams with Sharp Teeth is a biographical documentary about writer Harlan Ellison, featuring original and archival footage along with interviews from colleagues and fans such as Robin Williams and Neil Gaiman. The film captures Ellison's life and work, beginning with footage shot by producer Erik Nelson in 1981 when Ellison was 24 years old. Initially intended for a PBS segment, the project evolved over decades into a comprehensive look at Ellison's contributions to literature and his unique personality. The film's title comes from a three-volume omnibus of Ellison's works published in 1991. It premiered on April 19, 2007, at the Writers Guild Theatre in Los Angeles and was screened again in September 2007 during Ellison's last public appearance in Cleveland. The DVD was released on May 26, 2009, and includes additional materials such as a conversation between Ellison and Gaiman.
