Destiny in Space is a 70mm IMAX documentary film that focuses on the daily lives of astronauts during the STS-42 Space Shuttle Discovery Spacelab mission. The film features scenes of astronauts fixing instruments and taking measurements in space, along with two Space Shuttle launches. It includes notable footage of an astronaut repairing the Hubble Space Telescope and uses CGI recreations of the surfaces of Venus and Mars based on satellite data from JPL.
The documentary also looks ahead to the future of human space exploration, contemplating what future generations might achieve. Directed by Academy Award-winner Ben Burtt and written by Toni Myers, it combines real footage from various shuttle missions, including STS-41-C and STS-61-B, with expert commentary and narration by Leonard Nimoy.
