Black Hole is a feature-length documentary about the blockade against the expansion of Whitehaven Coal's Maules Creek coal mine in the Leard State Forest, New South Wales. Directed and produced by Joao Dujon Pereira, the film features interviews with key figures, including environmental activist Jonathan Moylan, who gained attention for a fraudulent press release regarding the ANZ Bank's ties to the coal mine in 2013.
The film premiered at the Environmental Film Festival Australia in Melbourne on 3 September 2015, followed by a limited release tour across various Australian states. Pereira began production in April 2014, initially planning a short film but later expanding it to feature length, resulting in over 700 hours of footage and more than fifty interviews. The production budget was approximately $90,000, funded through crowd-funding and donations.
