Architecton is a documentary film directed by Viktor Kossakovsky that examines how stone and concrete architecture reflects societal values. The film uses a range of architectural imagery, from the ancient temple ruins of Baalbek in Lebanon, dating back to AD 60, to the recent devastation in Turkey caused by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake in early 2023. Kossakovsky presents a narrative that connects the rise and fall of civilizations with the physical remnants they leave behind. The film features a landscape project by Italian architect Michele De Lucchi and offers a poetic meditation on architecture's role in both destruction and hope for the future. It was filmed over a period of 60 days and includes contributions from various production companies, including Ma.ja.de. and A24. The film had its world premiere at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival on 19 February 2024, where it was nominated for the Golden Bear and the Berlinale Documentary Film Award.
