How a record gets made
A masthead of two and a catalogue of more than 100,000 documentaries only makes sense if we are straight about which parts are written by hand. Most of them are not.
Each film's record starts from third-party data, listed on our about page, and is then enriched by automated pipelines that pull people, places, organisations, events and themes out of the synopsis and, where we have one, the transcript. Those pipelines write the bulk of what you read on a film page.
What is not automated is what gets through. Titles pass quality and brand-safety review before they can be published, anything that fails is held for a person to look at, and the collections, shelves and editorial rows are chosen by hand rather than generated.
Where a judgement is ours rather than a source's, we say so on the page and sign it.
Corrections
A catalogue assembled this way will contain mistakes, and we would rather hear about them than not. If a credit, a date, an award or a synopsis is wrong, tell us which page and what is wrong, and we will check it against the source and correct the record. Report a correction.
